Dr. Patrick Kavanagh

Patrick Kavanagh completed his PhD at Dublin City University in 2011 before moving to the IAAT at the Eberhard Karls University of Tubingen in Germany, where he worked for 5 years as a post-doctoral researcher on the matter cycle in galaxies. During this time he participated in the eROSITA consortium, and joined the Athena Science Working Groups. In 2016 he took up a position at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies working on calibration and software development of the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), while continuing his research activities. As part of the MIRI team he worked on the development of MIRI, the JWST calibration pipeline, and the post-launch commissioning of MIRI at the JWST Mission Operations Centre at the Space Telescope Science Institute. He moved to Maynooth University in 2023 where he leads his SFI-IRC Pathway funded research group. His research is focused on the matter cycle in galaxies through multi-wavelength observations of young stellar objects and star formation, star-forming regions, supernova remnants, superbubbles, and the interstellar medium.
