From Leviathan to LOFAR

Professor Michael Burton, director of the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium, is one of the world-class speakers at our upcoming festival, and he will be talking about the important role that Ireland has played in the birth of astrophysics, including the first detailed images of objects such as the Whirlpool and Crab nebulae made by the Third Earl of Rosse with the Leviathan at Birr (the largest telescope in the world for 72 years), He will then bring things right up to date with the latest news on the topical I-LOFAR radio telescope at Birr.
