The stars are aligning on Mayo this October as Dark Sky Ireland is delighted to present the 9th International Artificial Light at Night Conference in Westport from October 28th to 31st, 2025.  This immediately precedes the ever popular Mayo Dark Sky Festival, which has a stellar programme this year with talks, walks, workshops and music, all celebrating Mayo’s natural dark skies.

The ALAN conference will see international Dark Sky and Artificial Light at Night researchers and practitioners from across the globe descend on Mayo to attend the event and visit the Gold-tier Mayo International Dark Sky Park, which was awarded the prestigious “Dark Sky Place of the Year Award 2024” by DarkSky International. 

The programme launch for both events will take place in the W Cinema on August 16th at 12 Noon as part of Irish Heritage Week and will feature a screening of Ireland’s Wild Islands, by award winning Westport based Crossing The Line Productions, followed by a short talk and Q&A by Eoin Warner, renowned wilderness guide and wildlife documentary maker.
